I notice I really like having sextiles in a synastry chart I think..
If a relationship has some few excellent qualities in the synastry but way too many squares and oppositions on the other hand, is it wrong to stay together? would this mean that the relationship would only be temporary maybe?

The square and opposition in synastry indicate the challenges that have to worked with in order to keep the relationship going. With a lot of these, the relationship might still stay together, but there will be a lot more work and tolerance and acceptance required. There is no "right" or "wrong" in staying together ... two people get together and either make it work or don't make it work.

Lasting relationships, or at least long-term, are indicated when one person's Sun or Moon or Venus or Mars is in the SAME or opposite sign as the other person's Ascendant. This is particularly strong it the planet is within 8 degrees of aspect.

I disagree that Venus SQ Mars is a good comparative aspect. My various books all say it is utterly horrible, but I hate to think that any situation is totally without merit. While there is a high sexual attraction and passion, one can have TOO much of a good thing, to the point where it becomes volatile and unstable. This is the case with Venus SQUARE Mars.

If somebody told you to break the relationship. Drop their friendship. Period. Squares builds character even in a relationship. As Grrrr pointed out, even square aspects between Venus and Mars will intensify your sexual nature and attraction. I'm not saying it will last forever. You wouldhave to look to Saturn for stability and longevity in any matters of the heart. Opposition are not complicated. Compare it to a see-saw. You need to compromise and attain a balance. Or, you can go up and down, switch betwen one side of the seesaw to the other. Eventually, you will achieve a compromise and balance things out. Sextiles is a good aspect IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Sextiles afford the person a chance to adapt to a situation. If you don't adapt, the SQUARE aspect always follows the Sextile and you will end up in conflict and disagreement. So any sextiles to your squares or oppositions, that is the KEY to solving your differences. Look to the house that planet is sending the aspect from.

I don't think anyone should end a relationship simply because they are not Astrologically "compatible".

I actually read that a Square between one's Mars and another's Venus indicates a high sexual attraction and intense passion between the two.

Oppositions, from my understanding in Synastry, are actually a GOOD thing. It draws the people together in those areas, because each will provide what the other one lacks.
