Question:
i'm starting to really re-think this whole astrology thing...?

i've LOVED astrology since middle school and lately i began to think that its not what we make it out to be, it can't tell you who you're compatible with...you CHOOSE to like or dislike people. Also, your personality changes throughout your life...and you actually have a little bit of EVERY sign in you depending on what you are doing.

The reason i'm saying this is because my best friend and i are not supposed to be compatible if we compare charts....the girl i hated is supposed to be somewhat neutral because we have a lot of compatible aspects but then a few that clash. And as for personality, i'm not always scorpio-like.

Sometimes i am very energetic...sometimes i love being the center of attention...sometimes i feel very shy and isolate myself...sometimes i am talkative...sometimes i feel smart...it changes during different situations.

So does anyone else agree...it really doesnt have that big of an affect...in the end we are who we want to be?

I agree with you. I don't think people even READ your question when they tell you to go make a birth chart, because I read it and I know you know all about astrology and birth charts and beyond that because you wrote "compatible aspects" which talks about birth chart and maybe even synastry of birth chart which is a higher form of astrology.

I guess this goes to show that astrology can be used for fun, but it's ignorant to think you won't get along with a certain sign or birth chart just because astrology says so. We are more than just our birth chart, our genes, our parents, our environment and our own free will to act also shaped who we are.

This whole 13th sign Ophiuchus business is ridiculous. The sign has been around for a long time now even when the 12 Zodiac system was made. I can remember architecture in the German Castles, they show 12 Signs, not 13. Why in 2011 decide to make a change to a system people have been going on following for the longest time? I say it's just to start more drama and show that people will believe anything they hear on the news. My first question was, why was this decision process not even mentioned to the public? Who gives these astrologers the authority to be making a decision that affects a lot of people? The reason why there's a supposed uproar is that a decision that affects us someway or another, we were never told about nor had a say in the decision yet it was made for us. I for one am not accepting what the media tells me, I am not just going to accept decisions they claimed to have made just because they are "bigger than us" in a sense. I know I am a Capricorn, I will always BE a Capricorn. The media can go screw itself

yeah...when you look at all your other signs such as rising, moon, love, etc youll see you're more than just a Scorpio :). maybe thats why you and your bestfriend get along well. And i think it also depends on how your were raised and how the society is that you live in. Im a Gemini, and most of the others i know are more outgoing than me...i believe its because of my father babying me all the time lol. If i lived with my mother i'd prolly be a true outgoing, talkative person...well a MORE talkative person because i do talk alot lol. So yeah, i try not to get so caught up in believing astrology as much either because i think that if if you REALLY want to you can be , and act however you want because of our free will in life :). But astrology does help me figure why i may not get along with certain people of different signs.

Well, it's all about dynamics... in every way.

You obviously know signs, and perhaps birth charts. Those define your personality at birth and what your personality might be if you lock yourself up somewhere you will never experience any sort of interaction and never learn anything.

As you probably well know, that would be impossible, which also suggests why people of a certain sign don't act like that sign per se, or people with exactly the same birth chart can still act differently. We are all raised in different environments, with different people and different personalities. For example: someone with mercury in Sagittarius is very likely to say what is on their minds without thinking it, and other people's reactions to it, over. This sometimes causes serious fights if in conversation with the wrong person. When a Sagittarius mercury says something offensive to someone without realising it (which often happens; they just don't realise they can be offensive) and that person is either too scared or too "civilised" to say something about it, then the Sagittarius mercury will never learn of the effect of his words. When that same Sagittarius mercury says the same thing to someone who WILL tell him, and very promptly, that they are offended then he will know the effect of his words. And when it turns out in an argument, I would say it's a lesson learned. I have no doubt that the Sagittarius mercury won't repeat something like that again if they are told about the effect of their words. Just a simple example like that can make two people with exactly the same placement different, just from the different experiences.

Another example could be of two people born around the same time and have exactly the same chart, but for the sake of argument, one is born in Western Europe, the other is born in South Africa. Both areas have different cultures, and if both children are raised in their respective country and never come into contact with another culture, they will only be influenced by the culture they are in, despite their personality. In every case, your personality is also forged into what it is now by the culture you are raised in as well as the environment in as much as it is possible to forge your personality (if you're naturally kind hearted, there is no cultural or environmental influence that can make you less kind hearted, only on the surface - but that is called cynical; if you naturally don't have a knack for languages, it doesn't matter how many languages are spoken in your country of origin). So, those two people will still have the personality that they are born with, but with clear influences of the culture they are born into.

Hope that makes sense. Just remember that there is more to astrology than just the sun signs. Feel free to explore.

You should look over your natal chart...

www.cafeastrology.com

Yes, you have many different signs involved in your personality. You sun sign doesn't make up every thing about you. Enter your information into that website and you'll see what I mean. It's very interesting, but don't dwell on it too much or take it too seriously. It's just supposed to be for fun.

EDIT: saying compatible aspects doesn't imply she even has a clue about natal charts. She possibly means certain aspects of her sun sign's personality go well with her friend's.

People's personalities do change during their lifetime, but only to a certain extent. Once we reach adulthood, our personalities stabilize and become more consistent.

Have you ever looked at your natal chart? There's so much more to astrology than just your sun sign.

I wouldn't say I believe in astrology, but I find much of it to be true.

My best friend is also supposed to not be compatible with me, but I don't care. (She's a Leo, I'm a scorpio.)

I don't think I know ANYBODY who's into astrology that likes somebody only based on his/her sun sign, that's just silly.

I think you're right. Maturity or a more evolved person might be able to be friends with ppl they wouldn't normally go with because of patience and all that maybe? Lol
