Looking for the name of an horoscope love synastry astrology book that came out in the late 70s or 80s. It was funny and written by a woman?

You are probably thinking of Linda Goodman's "Love Signs". Her books were very popular when it was common for everyone to go around asking "What's Your Sign?" (which was an immediate indication that the person didn't have a clue about astrology).
Goodman's book isn't really a synastry book. She compares signs, and that is pop-astrology, not real astrology.
Synastry looks at the angular distances ("aspects") that occur between your 10 planets and the other person's 10 planets. And THIS is what indicates the various interactions between two people.
I recommend "The Astrology of Human Relationships" by Sakoian and Acker. It gives you an in-depth explanation for every planet of theirs in your various natal houses, as well as an interpretation for every possible major synastry aspect between your planets and the other person's planets.

I agree with Janet. After the popularity of Linda Goodman's Sun Signs she wrote a book "Love Signs." The best sun sign book I've ever read was "How to Spot a Bastard by His Star Sign" though.

Astrology is fake.
