Question:
Is astrology difficult to learn?

I know the very basics, I know the personalities that come with each sign, and how each placement in a chart works (Sun/moon/mercury etc.). I know the ruling planets of each sign, and the elements. I know what each aspect means (conj./trine/sextile etc.). The main thing I'm working on now is the houses, and what each house represents.

Isn't it pretty much just integrating the house placement, the aspect, and the sign all into one to get a general feel of the person in that specific area of their personality?

I know that is much more to it, but is that the basic gist of how it goes? Or am I missing any key factors

Any advice is appreciated :)

I've been studying astrology for over 2 1/2 years now (not full time of course) and I'm still learning. Here is a link to a free online course about astrology basics. http://wilsontc.stormloader.com/index.html#continue

I refer this site to you because it starts from the very beginning which is how to understand what the hemispheres of a chart means (created by the line connecting the Ascendant and the Descendant) and then the ones created by the Midheaven and IC. and then the placements in the hemispheres, the quadrants, etc. Many people who try to learn astrology just skip over this part but in serious astrology, everything matters. This isn't an entire course - this only covers the true basics.

The site on the home page also gives suggested reading but once you get the basics down, you should look through books on your own. Some books, I find, are written in flowery, descriptive language. Enjoyable but not my preference.

Yes Xtina it is difficult to learn astrology. But what many do not understand is that once you understand the planets, signs, houses, and aspects, THEN you have to learn to integrate all of those details and be able to actually make sentences to interpret a chart.

I like to say that I am The Slowest Learner of Astrology in History as it was so confusing. All these definitions. So many contrary traits in just one person?

But the good news is this. After learning the keywords and building the Foundation of a Natal Chart you then have the strong solid base that you will need to reach deeper into the individual with confidence. This doesn't happen overnight. And some people DO learn astrology quickly. I was just not one of them.

So the interpretation of a natal chart into a cohesive unit is by far the most difficult part. But by taking it one step at a time, you cannot fail. The only way to fail is if you quit trying. And I am so grateful that I continued my study of astrology as it has helped not only me, but it has greatly helped my understanding of other individuals. We all have Life Lessons to learn here on Earth. I believe that we come to Earth to learn to love and to learn to forgive. Sounds so easy but so tough to do at times!

I started a blog to help beginner astrologers and I suggest you begin at the "end" as that is how my blog turned out anyway! Sometimes nothing is easy but the things that we work hardest on invariably bring the greatest rewards. And if you get stumped along the way just ask a question here on Answers as there are some awesome astrologers at this site.

Here is the link and I hope you find it helpful and good luck and bless you too.

Astrology is a big subject, and the more you know, the more you'll realize you need to look at. Get a feel for the planets and what they represent. As well as the signs, as well as the houses. As well as the energy of certain aspects. Integrating these things isn't quite easy, particularly when certain elements of a chart seem somewhat contradictory to others. It takes a sort of feel, a sort of intuition to get it just right.

But I went from completely cold to competent in just two months. It's all based on what you can understand and what you can intuit.

I think the best tutorials are likely on cafeastrology.com.

Being all made up and requiring total blind belief, no one can "learn" astrology. There is no consistency in astrology, even when it is wrong. Using astrology for personality reasons make it a bigoted concept that is akin to racism. No one chooses when to be born and there is no evidence for the stereotyping.

Edit: Biased but true. I seek the truth and truth demands to be tested. How difficult can astrology be when there are so many self taught experts here?

No, not really. Once you get the hang of making it up as you go along - which is how astrology works - it'll be a breeze.

Easy in a sense. I use my intuition to de-scramble usually. Every day is a learning process for me and keep discovering something new. Interesting to say the least.

The basics are easier to learn, yes. :)

Now onto the harder stuff:

-Deeper understanding of every individual house & planet and most/all influences conjoined with the signs

-Reading a chart & its angles,degrees completely

-Planets in retrograde

-Short term/long term transits, reading transits in a chart

-Asteroids, vertex, etc.

-Synastry & Composite charts

-Minor aspects; semi-square, sesquiquadrate, etc & transits/aspects

-Taking signs, houses, aspects & interpreting it into relationships/rl problems
