Question:
Which house system is the most effective?

I was reading that Equal house system is preferred by formal students of astrology (studying at Universities for instance), while Placidus is in wide spread use everywhere else. Why do people prefer one house system over the other? What are the house systems which would be equally effective with a given chart? Thank you.

It is a subjective consideration. And perhaps more a matter of how we were trained.

Yes, most Western astrologers use Placidus. Second-most widely used is the Koch system, especially for event charts, although some also use it for natal charts.

I don't know what universities you are referring to that teach astrology, except perhaps for Kepler College, which has ceased to exist. However, if you start attending the conferences for serious astrologers, you will not find a one of them presenting their information in the Equal House format. The majority of their work is presented in the Placidus system, and a few others are occasionally used, of which I have seen Koch leading the way..

From my astrology studies I believe the Equal House system is the oldest and simplest of the systems. The others such as Placidus and Koch came later. Also they can give very large houses for people living in extreme latitudes.

lifescape astrology does not use houses. they just see planets and angular separation between them.
